National Restaurant Association Applauds Senate For Burying The Death Tax
The National Restaurant Association today applauded the U.S. Senate for passing a bill to repeal the "death tax," and urged President Clinton to sign the measure. The Senate passed the bill, the Death Tax Elimination Act, by a vote of 59 to 39.
"Family-owned businesses are a hallmark of our industry," said Steven C. Anderson, president and chief executive officer of the National Restaurant Association. "For years, restaurant and other small business owners have spent a great deal of money on accountants and attorneys in an effort to diversify their assets. People should not have to splinter their business in order to ensure that it stays in the family. We are pleased that the Senate recognized this by passing the Death Tax Elimination Act, and we urge the president to sign this important pro-restaurant bill."
