National Restaurant Association Sends Strong Message To Senators: Act Now To Move The Immigration Debate Forward
The National Restaurant Association today sent a letter to Senators expressing the importance of quickly moving forward with the debate on comprehensive immigration reform, and urged Senators to vote for cloture on the motion to proceed to consideration of S. 1639 and on an expected cloture motion on the bill itself. The Association may consider these procedural votes as "key votes" for the 110th Congress.
"Failure to move this bill forward will likely postpone this much needed reform for years," said Peter Kilgore, Acting Interim President and Chief Executive Officer. "The nation's badly broken immigration system simply cannot stand to wait that long; the need for reform is urgent. We hope that the Senate will recognize this unique opportunity to address perhaps the most critical domestic policy challenge this Congress faces."
The National Restaurant Association, which represents an industry of 12.8 million employees who work at 935,000 restaurant and foodservice locations, serves as co-chair of the Essential Worker Immigration Coalition, which includes more than 40 national businesses and trade associations seeking reform of America's broken immigration system.
