Thomas DeGeest Fulfills Promise of Playing Holiday Music Just Once All Year - in August! (Belgian Protests November Start of 24/7 Carols on the Radio)

WHAT: Celebration of "National Waffle Day"

NYC's iconic Wafels & Dinges truck, decorated in lights and playing carols, is in the Christmas spirit and will give away FREE WAFELS for one hour (11:30 am - 12:30 pm). All day long, there will be FREE DINGES (toppings): bananas, whipped cream, strawberries, Nutella, Belgian chocolate fudge or speculoos spread, dulce de leche, maple syrup, and bacon!

* In 2008, "The Wafel Guy" (Thomas DeGeest) promised never to become a "Jingle Bells in early November" business. He has chosen National Waffle Day (Aug. 24) as Jingle Bells Redemption Day. It will be the only day of the year that the Wafels & Dinges truck will play Christmas carols and be decorates with ornaments. So while the sounds of Christmas fill the hot August air, DeGeest will play Santa Claus and give out cool treats to good little boys & girls of all ages!

WHO: Thomas DeGeest of Wafels & Dinges, NYC's premier maker of authentic Belgian waffles (AKA "The Wafel Guy")

WHERE: Fifth Avenue betw/ 23rd and 22nd Street
Flatiron section of Manhattan

WHEN: Monday, Aug. 24, 2009
FREE WAFELS from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
FREE DINGES -- all day long!

WHY: NYC is the birthplace of the "Belgian" waffle at the 1964 World's Fair, where the treats became an instant hit. (The Belgian waffle is actually called the " Brussels " waffle in its home country.) Wafels & Dinges is the only company in the U.S. to use the old-school waffle oven, combined with cast iron waffle makers similar to the one patented by Cornelius Swarthout of Troy, NY, on Aug. 24, 1869.

About Wafels & Dinges

Founded in October 2007 by Thomas DeGeest, a native of Belgium who missed eating the tasty snacks he remembered so fondly from his youth, Wafels & Dinges makes authentic Belgian and Lige waffles. The now iconic yellow truck was a pioneer among the so-called "gourmet food trucks in NYC. Wafels & Dinges (dinges means "things" or "whatchamecallits" in Flemish) will soon launch "De Kompleet Wafel Kit - Brussels Style" for home baking. Visit www.wafelsanddinges.com.
