Native, A Harlem Oasis, Welcomes New Summertime Menu
NATIVE, A HARLEM OASIS, WELCOMES NEW MENU FOR SUMMERTIME
Native brings French Moroccan Caribbean flavor to Manhattans Harlem Community
Harlem, NYC Native, a stylish, intimate restaurant and lounge- an all worlds bistro, has become recognized for its progressive French Moroccan Caribbean cuisine, simple design and relaxed atmosphere. The native Harlemites, who derive from various countries and places, have finally found a home at the restaurant, Native (161 Lenox Avenue at the corner of West 118th Street). In order to offer its clientele a unique and personalized dining experience, Native changed the former menu by adding a wider array of light, gourmet French fare for the summertime.
When opening Native, our goal was to create a restaurant that seamlessly blended great food, and a fun atmosphere, commented Brian Washington Palmer, Owner, Executive Chef, and Designer of Native. I think weve accomplished what we set out to do. And because were constantly adding new wonderful items and ideas, the menus never boring. The people of Harlem are all from different parts of the world, so I offer dishes that are reminiscent of thembecause were all from somewhere.
When developing Natives menu, Palmer drew upon his own travels and experiences throughout France, the Caribbean, Latin America, and his residency in the eclectic San Francisco. As the owner of two other Harlem-based restaurants, Monkey Room and Blue Evolution, it was imperative that Native offer its customers a unique experience of bold flavors that compliments Harlems bold lifestyle.
The end result is a stylish eatery specializing in progressive French cuisine with signature dishes that include, Red Curry Coconut Shrimp with Balsamic Grilled Portobellos , Island Style Yuka Cakes, Pan Seared Catfish with Cheddar Cheese Grits and Pecan Morita Chile Sauce, Basilla Crescents with Curried Tomato Sauce-Flaky Dough Filled with Seasoned Aromatic Vegetable Sauce, and Moroccan Fried Chicken with Seared Collard Greens, Mashed Potatoes, and Walnut Sauce. To accommodate the warm weather, Native has added refreshing, tropical frozen cocktails mixed with a Caribbean beat.
Native opened its doors in the Summer of 2002. Its quaint, intimate setting and personable service make this a favorite amongst the Harlem community. After receiving its liquor license in the Fall 2002, Natives nightlife has enhanced tremendously making it a hot spot for celebrities and moguls such as Eartha Kitt, Singer Freddie Jackson, Publicist Terri Williams, and Calvin Klein model, Travis.
