Neighborhood Restaurant Opens On Fifth Avenue In Park Slope

Stone Park Cafe opened on September 21, 2004. The beautiful neighborhood restaurant is a longtime dream of co-owners Josh Foster and Josh Grinker, childhood friends who grew up together in Park Slope. The two Brooklyn boys have created a contemporary American restaurant with a full bar, sidewalk patio and an inviting neighborhood atmosphere. The menu emphasizes seasonal ingredients and features a mix of original and classic dishes.

Chef Grinker's signature preparations include starters of House-Smoked Spareribs and Pan-Seared Bluefish Cakes with Celery Root Slaw; entries of Seared Rib eye Steak with Sautied Red Spinach and Creamy Mushrooms and Hot Smoked Black Cod with Crispy Sweetbreads and Veal Ragout; a broad array of salads and sandwiches, such as Frisie Salad with Bacon, Potatoes and Crispy Poached Egg and Sliced Newport Steak Sandwich with Vermont Cheddar and Caramelized Onions. Complementing the menu is a 60 bottle wine list, crafted with the guidance of David Gordon, Wine Director of Tribeca Grill.

Stone Park Cafe is a haven of value and comfort for those living in Park Slope, and for anyone passing through who wants to experience the heart and soul of Brooklyn. Come as you are. Fall in for a beer, a snack after work, a night out with friends, or bring the kids and enjoy a full meal. Stone Park's gentle price point and intriguing but accessible menu will send you home satisfied, relaxed, and glad that you live around the corner - whether that's Garfield Place or midtown Manhattan.

Before opening Stone Park, Foster and Grinker worked in some of the city's top restaurants, notably Tribeca Grill and River Cafi. Most recently, Foster spent seven years with Drew Nieporent's Myriad Restaurant Group as purchasing director for Tribeca Grill and general manager of TriBakery. A graduate of Florida International University's School of Hotel and Restaurant Management, he has also worked with Restaurant Associates at the Metropolitan Opera House and Museum of Art, the United Nations and the US Tennis Open. Foster's vision for Stone Park Cafe was shaped in part by his early experience tending bar at J.T. McFeely's, a venerable Park Slope saloon.

Grinker, a graduate of Macalaster College and the New England Culinary Institute, has traveled extensively through Southeast Asia and spent several years cooking at A Single Pebble in Vermont. In New York, Grinker worked as a sous chef at the River Cafi.

Grinker is joined in the kitchen by Tracy Young, Chef-de-Cuisine and Stone Park investor. Young is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and New England Culinary Institute. Most recently, Young has worked at Logan Brown restaurant in Wellington, New Zealand and Le Bec Fin, in Philadelphia. Her culinary interests and continued education has also taken her to India, Mexico, China, and throughout Southeast Asia.

Stone Park Cafi takes reservations for parties of five or more. A childrens menu is available at all times.
