New Cooking App Provides Doctor-developed Healthful Recipes To Inspire Novices And Young Adults To Begin To Cook
Cookbook author and proprietor of aDoctorsKitchen.com, Dr. Deborah Chud has announced the launch of her new healthy cooking app for the iPhone and iPad operating system. The app, which is available in the iTunes store for $3.99, is called TRUFFLEHEAD and is designed to inspire novices and young adults to get into the kitchen and begin the journey to cooking healthful, budget-conscious, eco-aware, delicious recipes.
"If young adults learn to cook great-tasting, healthy meals now, they will cook them for the rest of their lives and support their own health as they grow older," says Dr. Chud. "The possibility for a healthier generation of people is a reality and that generation is more attached to their iPhones and iPads than bulky laptops or books. I want to change the course of how our young people feed themselves and their families by literally placing the ability to do so in the palms of their hands."
Named for the valuable nuggets of information the user will find beneath the surface of every recipe, TRUFFLEHEAD features over 260 recipes, comprehensive info on ingredients and kitchen tools, step-specific technique demos and "smart" shopping lists. But it is is far more than a mobile cookbook, features include:
- Over 260 recipes - 150 dairy-free, 110 gluten-free, 160 vegetarian and more than 200 low-cal and low-fat recipes
- Recipe-embedded hyperlinks to comprehensive info on over 200 ingredients and more than 150 equipment photo IDs
- 170 step-specific multi-media demos accessible directly from recipes
- "Smart" shopping lists which integrate ingredients from multiple recipes and group identical items together for easy shopping
- Priority Organics labeling of ingredients that are best purchased in organic form
- Doppelgnger recipes in "Simple" and "Not-so-Simple" versions so that new cooks can start slow and grow as they master techniques and become familiar with ingredients.
- Sustainability Tips within recipes make many of them eco-conscious (e.g. most eco-friendly type of tuna or cod to buy)
- Interactive usability allows users to upload photos of their TRUFFLEHEAD creations to www.trufflehead.com, the online community for celebrating and sharing their experiences.
And to top it all off, more than half of the recipes can be prepared in in 30 minutes or less, and 95% are budget-friendly.
Dr. Chud's career focus has always been on healthy cooking, but she recognized a simple fact early: cooking full-flavored healthy food is hard! More often than not, the most delicious foods are full of bad fats and other toxins which are unhealthy for everybody but can have even more dire consequences for some, especially over time. Therefore she set out to create a series of recipes and strategies designed to bring out the rich flavors of the foods we love by employing both healthy and smart cooking techniques we can trust. In 2009 she launched www.aDoctorsKitchen.com to share her recipes and philosophies with a larger, internet-savvy community. When her son entered college and began phoning with cooking questions like "What does a shallot look like?" she realized she had an opportunity to share her experience with younger people just beginning to cook seriously, and she recognized the platform to do so was mobile computing... TRUFFLEHEAD was born
