New Farmers Market To Run Seasonally In Westport

The new Westport Farmers Market opens June 29th on the parking lot of the Westport Country Playhouse and soon-to-open THE DRESSING ROOM-Newman's Own., A Homegrown Restaurant.

WHAT:
The Westport Farmers Market, at the Westport Country Playhouse, is a seasonal weekly market for the community to purchase the finest homegrown produce and artisan foods directly from the Connecticut farmers and artisans who produce them. It will be place to explore American food heritage, interact with farmers and chefs, and learn about taste, cooking and eating well.

WHY:
To support Connecticut farmers; to help conserve local farmlands and promote sustainable agriculture; to build awareness of the strong connection between the health of the land and personal well-being.

WHO:
Sponsored by the Town of Westport First Selectman's Office and Wholesome Wave, LLC, and operated by market manager Katherine Dyer.

The Westport Farmers Market, at the Westport Country Playhouse, is an initiative of Actor Paul Newman and Chef Michel Nischan, award-winning cookbook author and owner of THE DRESSING ROOM-Newman's Own., A Homegrown Restaurant, slated to open mid-summer. Newman and Nischan worked closely with Westport First Selectman Gordon Joseloff and Second Selectwoman Shelly Kassen to make the market a reality. "As we all believe, it's important that we work to restore the sense of community that once defined Westport and Greater New England," says Nischan. Via Merrit Parkway (Route 15): Exit 41, left onto Route 33 South, left onto Route 1 (Post Road), after 5 traffic lights, Westport Country Playhouse on left.
