Newly Expanded Bar And Lounge At Tenpenh Hosts Two Happy Hours On Weekdays

At the sound of the gong find a seat at the bar! TenPenh, the pan-Asian power spot on Pennsylvania Avenue, has expanded its bar and lounge, adding a happy hour with a twist. In addition to creating more seating area for groups as well as quieter spots for twosomes, TenPenh's lounge will host two happy hours on weekdays, and toast the close of the weekend with happy hour specials on Sunday nights.

The expanded lounge extends across the bar area. The refreshed dcor includes an array of decorative mirrored tables, tall rattan chairs with rice field green color cushions, and weathered oak-tinted seats with ruby red pillows for groups to cozy around. Couples can steel away to pairs of chocolate brown wood "couch-ettes" in quiet corners. Friends can lounge or share with others the plush tea leaf colored couch with subtle touches of floral accents and provocative red leather chairs that showcase the windows facing Pennsylvania Avenue. Silk lanterns of varied sizes and glorious hues dangle over head, enhancing the club-like atmosphere. The graceful eyes and elegantly mysterious expression of the custom painted Buddha spanning across a wall reminds guests to relish the moment. There's more space for diners to mingle before being seated in the chic dining room which glows with burnt red and orange silks. The vibe is business and pleasure, with a strong emphasis on the latter. While the newly expanded lounge area will launch officially on July 12, 2009, the deals and the power perches on Pennsylvania Avenue are already in place.

Hold the pitchers and chicken tenders: TenPenh's head bartender Brennan Adams, a former architect, has applied his knack for design to a new arena: specialty cocktails. Here we see flavors and tastes like no other: Lychee Lemonade (a marriage of sharp citrus, soft lychee and vodka infused with Scottish raspberries and Maryland cranberries) and the Asian Mojito (mint and limes muddled with Asian pear sake). These cocktails, select wines and Asian beers will be available for $5 during the happy hours. Not to be outdone, TenPenh's Executive Chef Cliff Wharton has tailored a savory menu of 13 chic bar snacks. During happy hours, these small plates including Lobster Rangoon, Lamb Pot Stickers, and Chili-Brined Chicken Wings are half-price in the bar and lounge area.

Making a destination more inviting to groups and price-conscious diners without sacrificing the value of the food and drink has been a winning formula at Ceiba, one of TenPenh's sister restaurants. In less than a year, Ceiba's weekday double happy hour has generated serious buzz. In May 2009, the readers of Washingtonpost.com voted the fine pan-Latin restaurant the "Best Bet for Happy Hour 2009.
