Nik Krankl Wins 2nd Place For Gelato Bar In Us National Barista Championship


Krankl Places 20 Points Shy of 2011 United States Barista Winning Champion, Pete Licata of Honolulu Coffee Company

Nik Krankl is 2nd place winner of the prestigious United States Barista Championship. Krankl is the son of Gelato Bar owner Gail Silverton and represented Gelato Bar in Los Angeles.

WHAT:
NIK KRANKL wins 2nd place in United States Barista Championships on Sunday, May 1, 2011, in Houston Texas. The competition is the precursor to the World Championship in Colombia this June. 38 people from all over the country qualified at the regional level to have the opportunity to compete at the USBC 2011. Krankl, as one of the six regional finalists, competed for the winning title which was awarded to Peter Licata of the Honolulu Coffee Company. The four other finalists in the competition placed as follows: Kevin "Tex" Bohlin, Ritual Coffee Roasters, 6th place; Lorenzo Perkins, Caffe Medici, 5th place, Trevor Corlett, MadCap Coffee, 4th place; and Ryan Knapp, MadCap Coffee, 3rd place.

Krankl presentation included a series of espressos and cappuccinos featuring fresh lot peaberry coffee from Caracol- Finca Matalapa El Salvador roasted by Ecco Caffe. In honor of the win, both Studio City and Hillhurst stores will feature beverages using the peaberry coffee beginning today as supply lasts.
