Nombe Hosts Japan's Hitachino Nest Beer For Three-day Tasting Event
Start off next weekend with Japan's most acclaimed craft beer maker, often referred to as "the owl beer" and San Francisco's Nombe for a four-course beer and food pairing event, beginning on Thursday, March 1st through Saturday, March 3rd.
Chef Noriyuki Sugie (Nori) hails the Ibaraki prefecture, home of Kiuchi Brewery and the producer of these popular ales, and is intimately aware of the country's current struggle to regain footing after the devastating effects of the March 2011 earthquake. As part of an effort to promote this rich agricultural region, Hitachino is spreading the word about its award-winning cult-like status craft beer.
The special menu ($36) includes four plates, each paired with a different beer, and the piece de resistance-Chef Nori's signature beef ramen. On Thursday, March 1st, the brewer will be on hand to visit with each table and offer complementary welcome sake. Dishes include:
- Pacific saury & foie gras terrine, sun-dried sweet potato
- Mackerel brandade, pickled shishito pepper
- Rice-crusted swordfish, caramelized pork belly
- Spicy octopus & tripe, long beans
- Awazuke beef cheek ramen with hand-crafted miso
This is the perfect way to sample Japan's most popular micro-brewed beers and Chef Nori's amazing izakaya fare. Reserve a spot by calling Nombe at 415-681-7150 or visiting Nombe online at www.nombesf.com.
Nombe is open six days a week: lunch, Tuesday through Friday from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm, brunch, Saturday and Sunday, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm and dinner, Tuesday through Sunday beginning at 6:00 pm. Closed on Monday. Located at 2491 Mission Street (near 21st Street) in San Francisco.
