Oceana Joins With Christie's And Charity Buzz Auctions To Raise Support For Protecting And Preserving The World's Oceans
Oceana is hosting a holiday auction which will be held via Charity Buzz to raise money to support research efforts in the Gulf of Mexico along with other work. The auction will feature 20 to 25 highly selective items valued at $5,000 or more featured in the auction. The auction will run from early November to early December.
Oceana is also collaborating with Christie's for their Green Auction event, "A Bid to Save the Earth" which will take place April 21st to March 29th, 2011. The auction will be an unprecedented collaborative event enlisting the participation of the philanthropic, environmental, business, cultural, and entertainment communities in an effort to highlight the importance of protecting the planet's most important ecosystems. This unique event, comprised of both a live and silent auction as well as a reception, is hosted by Christie's and four renowned environmental NGOs: Conservation International, Natural Resources Defense Council, the Central Park Conservancy, and Oceana.
The inaugural Green Auction, held in 2010, raised $2.4 million and marked the first time in history that four NGOs have come together around their collective missions to protect the planet.
The thrilling live auction event will be held at Christie's Rockefeller Center in the heart of New York City and will feature lots valued at $100,000 or more. The 2010 auction was co-chaired by David and Susan Rockefeller and attended by a notable crowd of over 800 guests from the arts, entertainment, and business communities. Celebrity guests included Salma Hayek and Fran?ois-Henri Pinault, Sam Waterston, Ted Danson, Brian Williams, John McEnroe, and the cast of the Today Show. Chevy Chase served as the live auction's Master of Ceremonies. The reception and auction space were designed by New York's premier event planner Bronson Van Wyck, presenting the perfect backdrop for the auctioning of lots valued at $100,000 or more. The live auction included works by world famous artists such as Keith Tyson and David La Chapelle, and once in a lifetime experiences, such as a round of Golf with President Bill Clinton. The silent auction included lots valued under $100,000 and was hosted by the premier charity auction website, Charity Buzz.
