Operation Design Presents ' The Doors', A Collaboration Between Keystone Design Union & Local N Y C High School Students, Sponsored By Sushi Samba

Side by side, artists from Brooklyn's Keystone Design Union and students from lower Manhattan's High School of Leadership and Public Service have been creating door-sized artwork to benefit the school through Operation Design. The students' artwork will be installed on the classroom doors of the school to create a more inspiring atmosphere in the school; the artists' panels will be auctioned online to benefit future Operation Design projects.

Professional artists worked one-on-one with nearly 60 high school students from the Leadership School to redesign the classroom doors to enhance the school's hallways with more than 30 new pieces of art. The focus of the work was on each student's thoughts about leadership and public service.

"Operation Design is devoted to creating strong mentorships between professional designers and artists and NYC public school students. If we can implement meaningful projects that will ultimately enhance these students' learning spaces, as well as provide them with inspiring professional experiences, we have reached our goal," said Ilene Shaw, President of Operation Design. "Witnessing their enthusiasm and excitement for these creative projects is just thrilling and highly motivating for our organization and all its volunteers."

SUSHISAMBA, with locations throughout the U.S. and a key sponsor for the initiative, will host the artist's work at Graffiti Gone Global. GGG, with 2010's theme being Fresh Produce, is an urban contemporary art exhibition running parallel to Art Basel Miami Beach - the most prominent art expo in the U.S. SUSHISAMBA will sponsor a trip for two winning students and their art teacher to attend the exhibition.

Curators of "THE DOORS" project are Michael Ventura, CEO/COO of Sub Rosa and David Gensler, President and Founder of Keystone Design Union.

"David and I have collaborated on a variety of projects in the past, but none as equally daunting and fulfilling as "THE DOORS". To work with students who perhaps never considered the arts as a career path, and see their faces come alive with enthusiasm and interest when their visions are realized reminded us of why we got into this business ourselves. From our vantage, the future of the arts in New York has never been brighter," said Ventura.

GGG's exhibit of "THE DOORS" opens in Miami on December 1 in the Wynwood Arts District following a private preview on November 30. The online auction through eBay also starts on Tuesday, November 30, and ends on Sunday, December 5. The panels, each measuring 18" x 60", will be auctioned to raise money for futureOperation Design projects. For more information about the auction, visit opdesign.org.

Additionally, GGGwill highlight the unique "Eames Inspiration" collection of iconic Eames? Molded Plywood Chairs as re-imagined by 20 of today's celebrated graffiti and street artists. The "Eames Inspiration" collection was displayed this past May in Barneys' famous windows in New York by Simon Doonan and auctioned online to benefit Operation Design. Art Basel Miami Beach will give visitors an opportunity to view the collection it in its entirety for the first time since last spring.

ArtScout Media, www.ArtScoutTV.com, an entertainment television company, plans to support the project by capturing all stages of "THE DOORS" on film, then will create news and promotional packages for artists, Operation Design, program sponsors and supporters.

Operation Design, founded on the belief that great design creates a better environment for learning, offers students direct interaction with artists, architects and design professionals and challenges young people in public schools to put their creativity to practical, important and real use.
