Peter's Since 1969 - A New Neighborhood French Rotisserie In Williamsburg

Preserving the old, while creating new, can be a difficult challenge. There's certainly a fine line between restoration and renovation; however, the latest eatery to open in Brooklyn's popular Williamsburg has perfectly executed this concept. PETER'S SINCE 1969 (168 Bedford Avenue, between North 7th and 8th Streets, Brooklyn, New York, NY 11211; 718.388.2811) is a welcoming French Rotisserie that has quietly opened its doors, providing a good old-fashioned, incredible tasty value for the locals. Fresh herb-marinated rotisserie chicken is the specialty served in this restored space, and genuine hospitality and generosity is the attitude. Offering an affordable dining option of housemade, savory, comfort food, PETER'S SINCE 1969, is what every neighborhood wishes it had to enjoy.

Israeli-born and classically French trained Executive Chef/Owner Omri Magal (Le Cordon Bleu, Paris) is overseeing the semi-open kitchen, creating everything from scratch: the delicious side dishes, soup and the dessert. The menu at PETER'S SINCE 1969 is simple and straightforward, offering one-style of herb-marinated Rotisserie Chicken ( - $8.95; - $9.95; whole - $22.95), roasted to perfection in a French Rotisol rotisserie. The chicken is served with a flavorful, slightly spicy Jalapeno-Lemon-Mint Sauce on the side, and comes with Cornbread and Pickles, plus 2 or 3 heavenly Side Dishes, including Macaroni & Cheese, Sweet Potatoes, Royal Spinach and Home-style Cabbage Salad (small - $3; large - $5). Housemade Soups ($3.95), such as Chicken Noodle, Minestrone, and Split Pea, are served daily, plus additional entrees such as Peter's Sausage with Sauerkraut Stew ($6.50), Homemade Chicken Marsala ($10.95), and Beef Stew ($10.95). For dessert, Magal offers a dense, fudgy Homemade "Nemesis" Chocolate Cake ($3.95), that is certainly worth saving room for. Non-alcoholic beverages, including Old Fashioned Bottles of Soda ($1.50) and Homemade Mint Lemonade ($2.95) are available, and guests are welcome to bring their own beer and wine.

As for its name, PETER'S SINCE 1969 is a tribute to its former tenant, Peter Kuper of B & B Meat Market, who ran the neighborhood butcher shop with his wife Lucy since 1969. Desiring to honor the legendary storefront not only with its name, but with its design, PETER'S SINCE 1969 has successfully maintained the integrity of the original butcher shop, which is actually over 100 years old. With its black and while tiled walls, old wood panels and floor, antique light fixtures, original meat hooks and marble counter, PETER'S SINCE 1969 has a classic, yet fresh feel, with genuine, authentic character and comfort. The large store front window, plus semi-open kitchen, draws the locals in to the casual, counter service space that has seating in the front and back, plus a quaint outdoor garden that will open in the Spring. PETER'S SINCE 1969 is simply starting a new dining out tradition that is destined to draw in repeat customers, just like Peter used to do.

PETER'S SINCE 1969 is open every day for dinner starting at 4PM, and at 12PM on the weekends. Take-out is available, with delivery coming soon.
