Pinkies Up For Tea Cocktails

Tea has always been seen as a civilized and sophisticated pastime and the Tea Lounge on the 23rd floor of the Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas is one of the most civilized and sophisticated settings guests can experience this treasured repast.

Legend has it that around the turn of the 19th century the noontime meal had become increasingly "skimpy." The Duchess of Bedford, one of Queen Victoria's ladies in waiting, would experience a "sinking feeling" around 4 p.m., and would have her maids smuggle in a pot of tea and a few breadstuffs. Eventually the Duchess would begin inviting her friends to join her at Belvoir castle for this later meal. She continued the practice upon her return to London, creating a new social activity centered around pastries, bread and butter sandwiches and long walks, and of course, tea.

Fast forward to the 21st century, where the cocktail has become de rigeur for social interaction, refreshing concoctions served up in martini glasses have become the necessary accessory for any woman and her elite social circle. Mixologists at Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas have combined the traditional and the contemporary with their innovative Tea Cocktails available in the Tea Lounge and in Mandarin Bar.

Selections of their premium loose leaf tea are married with top shelf spirits for these relaxing concoctions, such as the Royal Tea, made with orange vodka, simple syrup, chilled Osmanthus Oolong tea and a splash of lemon juice, served on the rocks. The namesake MO-tea uses Introspection tea, an herbal infusion of mint and chamomile with an all-spice and clove finish, shaken with freshly muddled raspberries, Navan vanilla liqueur and Amaretto di Saronno. For the true martini set, the Tea-tini packs a punch, made with bourbon, chilled Jasmine pearl tea and apple juice, sweetened with agave nectar.

The Tea Lounge at Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas offers guests the ability to reconnect over a pot of tea or an uplifting cocktail in a chic, luxurious setting with a stellar view of the Las Vegas Strip. For more information call +1 (702) 590 8888.
