Pisco Sour Day

Pisco Sour Day

Pisco Sour is Peru's national drink. Victor Morris, an American invented it in the early 1920's. Made from Pisco, a grape brandy, and combined with lime juice, sugar, ice and whipped egg white, this national cocktail has long been a symbol of Peruvian celebration. It is also the most famous drink in the US made with Pisco.

Peru loves to celebrate its Pisco, and decided to honor its national spirit by making a holiday for its iconic cocktail the first Saturday in February. We at Macchu Pisco believe that such a classic is worthy of a month-long celebration.

The best way to honor the famous cocktail is by visiting the capital city of Lima where the fountain in Plaza Mayor swaps water for Pisco, and some 2000 liters of Pisco spouts fresh into celebrating mouths all day long.

In the US, most restaurants will offer great deals for ordering Pisco Sour, promoting Peru's national drink, including Cuba Libre restaurants in Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Orlando and Washington DC.

Fifty Shades Of Grape

Valentine's Day weekend brings the release of 50 Shades Of Grey, the film version of the best-selling novel. We would like to celebrate this romantic holiday with 50 Shades Of Grape.

Jo-Jo Valenzuela, vice president of the Washington DC Craft Bartenders' Guild invented the cocktail a few years ago. He writes:

I came up with the idea around October 2013. As honorary cocktail chair for the March of Dimes Signature Chefs event, I was tasked to come up with a drink to serve about 800 VIP guests.

I have always been an avid supporter of La Diablada Pisco, and I wanted to feature it at the event. People have been talking about the controversial book "50 Shades of Grey" at the time, grapes were in season, and it all fell into place.

Salud!

The Dance Of La Diablada

When Peru celebrates something, they do it in an explosion of color. February brings the Feast Day of the Virgin of Candelaria (La Fiesta de la Virgen de Candelaria). to the town of Puno.

One of the highlights is a dance portraying the battle between Archangel Michael's army and the minions of Satan, called The Dance Of La Diablada.

This can give you some idea of the traditions which produced the name and spirit of our premium brand, La Diablada Pisco.

Watch a video of the dance and get inspired to create cocktails capturing La Diablada's mystical wonder.
