Pops Restaurant In Boston Raises The Bar
The South End Neighborhood Favorite Introduces its Newest Addition: The Bar at Pops; Along with a New Look & Menu for the New Year
Co-Owner's Doug & Lily Noble and Chef/Co-Owner Felino Samson are excited to announce that they are raising the bar at Pops Restaurant, literally, with the addition of the Bar at Pops among other exciting changes. Keeping in line with the ever-changing dinning scene in the South End, Chef Samson, has also introduced a new small plates menu and winter menu, but has pledged to keep patrons' old favorites such as the Pops Burger and Kobe Meatloaf on the menu.
"We are thrilled about the addition of the Bar at Pops," says Chef Samson, "with the expanded, new bar (now on the opposite side of the restaurant) and customized lighting, along with a killer new winter and the added small plates menu; our patrons are going be blown away by Pops 2010."
THE BAR AT POPS
Pops Restaurant boasts a cozy, neighborhood feel; perfect for an intimate dinner or a night out with friends. With the addition of the Bar at Pops, the restaurant has created an entirely new spatial element; the white, luminous bar contrasts Pops' dark wood accents creating a uniquely urban atmosphere.
The Bar at Pops boasts a new, extensive seasonal cocktail list, which focuses on creative interpretations of classic cocktails and is broken down into five, fun categories: fresh, fizzy, fruity, bold and luscious. With drink options such as the Basil Hayden Manhattan, Belle de Brillet Sidecar, Fresh Grape Caihparina, Red Agave Margarita, Absinthe "Horchata" and the Chef's Staff Drink made with dewars, matilde raspberry liqueur, topped with ginger beer, and fun, upbeat 'pop' music playing the Bar at Pops is sure to become the newest neighborhood bar destination. Chef Samson will also be serving up whimsical, gratis bar bites, including house made Truffle Pop-Corn for guests to snack on while enjoying the new cocktail list.
THE CHEF
After spending nine years working in the fashion industry Felino Samson decided to make a career change and with no formal training, secured a position with Chef Rene Michelena at Manhattan's Sign of the Dove restaurant. In 1997 Chef Samson accepted a position in Boston at Chef Michelena's La Bettola and then moved over to La Bettola's sister restaurant Galleria Italiana as executive chef, where he garnered praise from variety of local and national publications including Esquire and Bon Appetite magazines.
In 1999 Chef Samson became a partner and executive chef at Bomboa Restaurant, where his food quickly gained national notoriety gracing the covers of prestigious gastronomic publications such as Food & Wine, Bon Appetit and Art Culinaire. After selling Bomboa in 2006, Chef Samson partnered up with entrepreneurs Doug & Lily Noble to create and open Pops Restaurant in the South End, fall of 2007, where it became an instant hit, drawing the neighborhood and area foodies alike.
THE MENU
Chef Samson has spent months engineering and testing his creative small plates menu with an array of globally-influenced options including the Carnitas Gordita, Tempura Shrimp Stuffed Peppers, Fried Oysters with Bacon Jam and Butternut Squash Ravioli with brown butter, sage and egg - all perfected to enjoy while sipping a cocktail at the Bar at Pops.
Pops' winter 2010 dinner menu is made up of innovative interpretations of comfort food classics, including the Fish & Chips, tempura blue cod, sweet potato fries and red cabbage slaw and the Mix Grill Sausages, rabbit, duck and wild boar sausages with short rib dirty fried and cheese curds - as well as Pops' favorites such as the Kobe Meatloaf, with mashed potatoes, glazed organic carrots and gravy and the Pops' Cheeseburger, with
