Press Restaurant St. Helena Debuts Ipad Wine Lists For Easy Navigation Of California's Largest All-napa Restaurant Wine Collection

PRESS, the acclaimed restaurant from Vintner Leslie Rudd and home to the largest collection of Napa Valley wines anywhere, now offers iPad wine lists for every table. The digital wine list is searchable by key words, and the results can be sorted alphabetically, by vintage, or by price. With the recent addition of a stunning, Howard Backen-designed wine cellar that houses up to 10,000 bottles, the iPads are the perfect tool to help navigate the restaurant's extraordinary collection of Napa Valley wines.

PRESS is home to the only all-Napa wine list in the region and the largest restaurant collection of Napa wines anywhere. Curated by PRESS sommeliers Kelli White and Scott Brenner, the list also has a focus on rare and older vintage wines, dating as far back as the late 1940s. PRESS recently celebrated its new wine cellar and incredible collection of vintage Napa wines with a historic tasting and reception in the cellar with the iconic winemakers of the region.

The iPads are being used in tandem with a new barcode scanning inventory system, so everything is now digital at PRESS. The software was manufactured by BinWise, which has also created similar applications for acclaimed restaurants such as French Laundry. The program was designed to mimic a real paper list as closely as possible, in order to make it user-friendly. The digital lists also feature stories on most of the wineries, so guests can learn all about the producers.

"We are incredibly passionate about the extraordinary wines of Napa Valley and are so excited to share our collection with our guests," said sommeliers Kelli White and Scott Brenner. "Having our lists available on iPads makes it that much easier for guests to get to know not only our collection, but also the stories behind the wines and producers. Additionally, since we are no longer printing on paper, we are able to contribute our small part to preserving the environment."

PRESS owner Leslie Rudd created the cellar to provide a "repository for rare and older Napa vintages" for wine lovers to enjoy while discovering the remarkable ageability of Napa wines. Fondly referred to by White as a "drinkable library," the new wine cellar at PRESS will allow visitors and locals to experience Napa's rich history firsthand. With offerings such as a 1947 and 1962 BV Private Reserve Georges de Latour, School House 1974 Pinot Noir, 1974 Caymus, and 1982 Mondavi Reserve, PRESS has become the ideal place to taste one's way through the decades and deeply explore the United States' most legendary wine-growing region.

The wine cellar, handsomely appointed in deep browns and glass walls, is situated between PRESS and Dean & DeLuca, with access from the restaurant. The cellar consists of three separate climate-controlled spaces joined by one common tasting room, separated from the main cellar by floor-to-ceiling glass walls. Design elements include a concrete floor, plaster walls, steel trim, custom fabricated steel sash windows and view windows that look into Dean & DeLuca. The 8' high ceiling, doors and long central table in the common room are made of reclaimed wood from Leslie Rudd's Edge Hill property. The cellar also boasts full-height chalkboards at both ends of the common room, which will be used for note-taking and wine descriptions. Each of the cellar spaces provides for individual air-conditioning and humidity control to meet the requirements of each type of wine.
