Seven New York Restaurants And Sixpoint Brewery Team Together For A One-of-a-kind Grilled Cheese Culinary Pop-up: The Big Cheesy Competition, February
There will be no better days this year for NYC comfort food lovers than February 25thand 26th when seven of the city's hottest restaurants; Artisanal, Big Daddy's, Casellula, Lucy's Whey, Little Muenster,Melt Shop, and Tartinery compete in the ultimate grilled cheese showdown. Openhouse Gallery, New York's pop-up venue, built this year's The Big Cheesy culinary competition, sold exclusively by Time Out New York, with a portion of proceeds benefiting City Harvest.
The Big Cheesy invites guests to taste each of the seven eateries' imaginative cheeses-past pairings included combos like truffles, provolone, pecorino and spicy jam or bacon and mac 'n' cheese-wash it all down with a cold tallboy Sixpoint brew (or a glass of Bella Lula for the underage), and vote for their favorites with cheddar-colored ping pong balls. The winning restaurant will receive a half page ad in Edible Manhattan and a year of bragging rights.
"There are so many great grilled cheese spots around the city but no real grilled cheese culture in New York," says Openhouse's Greg Spielberg. "We're creating that celebration, if only for two days, with a host of great chefs ready to cook up their best sandwiches."
Tickets are available for one hour time slots over the course of two days and for the first time can be purchased atnewyork.timeout.com/bigcheesy. Twitter users can enter for a daily chance to win a free ticket by retweeting@timeoutnewyork's event announcement or by telling their best cheesy joke at Openhouse Gallery's Facebook page. A portion of all proceeds benefit City Harvest, New York's food rescue organization dedicated to feeding the city's hungry men, women, and children.
