Share Our Strength's Taste Of The Nation Fights Hunger And Poverty In Philadelph

Hundreds of Philadelphians will gather on Wednesday, June 5, from 6 to 10 p.m. to show their support for Philadelphia's premier event to raise awareness and funds for anti-hunger and anti-poverty efforts at Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation, presented nationally by American Express and locally by Philadelphia Magazine. Steve Levy, news anchor for NBC 10, will serve as the master of ceremony for the event which will be held at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, located at 1200 Market Street.

Now celebrating its 15th year in Philadelphia, Taste of the Nation brings together 60 of Philadelphia's leading restaurants, wineries, microbreweries and coffee houses; including Bistro Romano, Blue Ox Brauhaus, City Tavern and Striped Bass. The chefs will capture the theme of the event, Eat Locally - Taste Globally, with their tabletop displays and culinary creations, which all guests will have the opportunity to sample. Additional festivities include music from The City Rhythm Orchestra and the opportunity for all guests to participate in a raffle for free prizes.

Tickets are $55 in advance and $65 at the door and can be ordered online at www.sosphilly.org or by calling 215-548-4000. One-hundred percent of the ticket sales from the event will support anti-hunger and anti-poverty organizations locally, benefiting: the Metropolitan AIDS Neighborhood Nutrition Alliance (MANNA), Philabundance, and the Philadelphia Committee to End Homelessness. This year, Taste of the Nation hopes to raise $50,000 in Philadelphia.

Taste of the Nation is nationally organized by Share Our Strength and is the nation's largest culinary benefit to fight hunger. Since 1988, Taste of the Nation events have raised more than $46 million, which Share Our Strength has distributed in grants to more than 450 groups working to fight and prevent hunger and poverty.
