Signorello Estate Releases Flagship Proprietary Blend 2007 Padrone - Robert Parker And Wine Spectator Offer Their Highest Scores Yet
Created as a tribute to Ray Signorello Sr., Signorello Estate's finest reserve wine 2007 Padrone continues a tradition of excellence. Padrone, Italian for "father figure" -- in the words of Ray Signorello Jr. -- reflects "a visionary whose dreams came to a reality in our wines at Signorello, and whose life was as full of character as our wines. Padrone is a wine that expresses the quality and dignity of Signorello Estate." The award-winning Signorello Estate's latest release, 2007 Padrone, is now available.
The 2007 Padrone, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc has been touted as possibly the finest Cabernet yet from Signorello Estate. The estate practices labor-intensive traditional French winemaking techniques where the wine is left unfiltered prior to bottling. According to Robert Parker, in The Wine Advocate, this method has resulted in "an overall impression of opulence and concentration" with flavors of "white chocolate intermixed with high-class cigar tobacco, blackberries, blueberries, and a hint of forest floor." Parker added that it is a wine where "beauty can be approached now but will evolve for more than two decades...one of the strongest line-ups I have tasted from Ray Signorello's winery."
The 2007 Padrone garnered the highest praise yet from both The Wine Advocate, with a score of 94 points, as well as Wine Spectator, with a 93. "[The 2007 Padrone] is impressive for its structure, complexity, range of flavors and focus," wrote James Laube in his Wine Spectator review. Decanter gave it four stars while Connoisseurs' Guide offered 93 points, calling it "solid, rich, age-worthy and well-suited to your best center-cut rib roast." Wine Enthusiast came in at 92 points.
In the words of Sigorello Estate's winemaker Pierre Birebent, a sixth-generation winegrower from Corsica, France, "the 2007 Padrone is an elegant beast of a wine. It displays aromatics of dried cherries, blackberries, white truffles, with rich chocolate and tobacco notes. It is deeply fruited with a graceful balance, sweet tannins and a long finish."
Signorello Estate's hillside vineyard along Silverado Trail provides a variety of exposures allowing for the creation of wines with increased complexity. The grapes for their proprietary red wine Padrone are sourced from two extremely rocky parts of the estate vineyard with yields of only 1.3 tons per acre. 940 cases of the 2007 Padrone were produced. Bottles retail for $125.
About Signorello Estate:
Signorello Estate is a family-owned boutique (7,000-case) winery that has been producing small lots of low yield (2 - tons per acre), high-quality wines since 1985. Winemakers Pierre Birebent and Luc Morlet craft the fine wines at The Signorello Estate, which is located on the eastern hillside of Napa Valley's Silverado Trail and overlooks the patchwork of vineyards on the valley floor.
