Southern Italian Christmas Fish Menu At San Domenico Ny
In Southern Italy, fish is traditionally served at Christmas. The most traditional celebration calls for seven fish dishes, with the number seven attributed religious significance. There are numerous theories of what the number represents: the Seven Sacraments of the Catholic Church, the seven sins, or the seven days it took Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem to name a few. Hailing from the area of Naples himself, owner Tony May honors this tradition by offering a five course, all-fish menu the week before Christmas. The menu, designed by award-winning Chef Odette Fada and Chef di Cucina Nicola Mersini, will be available December 23-28, 2002 (the restaurant will be closed on Christmas Day). The price is $70.00 per person, tax and gratuity additional. Reservations can be made at 212-265-5959.
