Starr Restaurants Brings A Fresh Catch To Philadelphia With Route 6

The flavors of the Atlantic breeze into Philadelphia tomorrow November 18th, with the opening of STARR Restaurants' Route 6 at 600 North Broad Street. Named after the famed highway that begins in Provincetown, Mass., and runs through the heart of Cape Cod, the restaurant pays tribute to its moniker with a seasonal, sea-to-table menu.

Anthony DiRienzo serves as Route 6's Executive Chef, showcasing classic dishes inspired by the coastal towns spanning Maine to Maryland. Integral to Route 6's culinary offerings are the restaurant's wood-burning oven and grill, which add a distinct flavor to the menu and ambiance to the dining room. Guests can expect a robust raw bar program and dishes such as clam chowder, lobster rolls, crab cakes and johnny cakes, as well as daily lobster and whole fish selections. DiRienzo also plans to have regular specials, such as a clam bake or fish fry. Non-seafood dishes will include grilled steaks and fried chicken, while the dessert menu will feature a selection of freshly baked seasonal pies and cobblers.

Route 6 will feature 20 beers by the bottle and six on tap, including a specially brewed, unfiltered Rye ESB called, "Route 6 Ale", created exclusively for the restaurant by Bill Herlicka, founder of renowned New Hampshire nano-brewery, White Birch Brewing. In addition to enjoying Route 6 Ale at the restaurant, guests will eventually be able to buy the beer to take home in custom-labeled 22-ounce bottles. Rounding out the beverage offerings will be a 40-bottle wine list-the majority of which will be available by the glass-and a selection of specialty seasonal cocktails.

Chef DiRienzo's tenure at STARR includes serving as Executive Sous Chef at Morimoto in Philadelphia, before becoming Executive Chef of Buddakan in Atlantic City, as well as assisting with the opening of Talula's Garden. Prior to joining STARR, DiRienzo worked as Sous Chef for celebrated James Beard Award-winning Chef Michael Mina, at his eponymous restaurant, which garnered four stars from the San Francisco Chronicle, and served as Executive Sous Chef of Chef Mina's AMERICAN FISH restaurant at the Aria at CityCenter in Las Vegas.

Designing Route 6 is Marshall Agriam Design Studio, a California-based firm, who evokes the charm of classic coastal New England, while also adding a modern twist for this project. Essential to the design and feel of the restaurant, is the open kitchen and large wood-burning oven. In addition to being used to prepare food, the oven will fill the space with a warm, hearth-like essence and the smells of oak and fruit woods such as apple and cherry. Upon entering, guests first walk through an open-air courtyard to find the rustic, white-washed wooden exterior of the restaurant, featuring antique window panes, which also serve as curio cabinets housing nautical artifacts such as knotted sailors' ropes and fishermen's tools, offering a subtle nod to the restaurant's coastal ties. These glass-paned cabinets also provide an openness and depth to the space. An array of custom and antique naval brass accents can be found throughout, while a double-sided fireplace anchors the north side of the restaurant. The main dining area-replete with New England-inspired furniture-features 64 seats, a 20-seat chef's counter that allows guests to peek into the open kitchen, and an additional dining room that includes 92 seats, with 24 seats in the bar and lounge area.

Route 6 is located at 600 North Broad Street in Philadelphia. The restaurant will serve dinner Sunday through Thursday 5pm to 10pm, and Friday through Saturday from 5pm to 11pm Phone: 215.391.4600 Website: www.Route6Restaurant.com
