Sweetgreen To Open In Boston On June 26th
sweetgreen, the much-loved, organic, farm-to-table salad shops founded in Washington, D.C., will open its first Boston location in Back Bay on Wednesday, June 26th. The new store will be located at 659 Boylston Street, just steps from bustling Copley Square and around the corner from Newbury Street. For the first time, Red Sox Nation will have access to sweetgreen's healthy and delicious salads, grain bowls, frozen yogurt and fresh pressed raw juice (sweetpress), which have garnered a cult following in the D.C. area.
In celebration of opening day, sweetgreen is inviting guests to "Pay What You Want" until 4pm, with all proceeds benefiting The One Fund Boston, formed to assist victims and families affected by the tragic events at the Boston Marathon.
"From the very beginning, sweetgreen has always been all about its community - and we can't imagine a better, stronger, more community-driven neighborhood than Boston," said Nicolas Jammet, co-founder of sweetgreen. "We are incredibly proud to be opening here, right in the heart of this great city, and look forward to sharing our take on delicious, healthy and locally sourced salads, juice and more with our new neighbors."
Ever since opening, sweetgreen has been dedicated to working with and sourcing their ingredients from local farms. Each store features a chalkboard "Local List" showcasing the nearby farms and ingredients featured on the menu. The Boston menu will feature zucchini and yellow squash from Ward's Berry Farm in the July salad of the month; chocolate peppermint from Eva's Garden as a new frozen yogurt topping; and local peaches and ginger goat cheese from Ann Starbard of Crystal Brook Farm, a fixture of nearby Copley Square Farmers Market, in the August salad.
Founded in 2007 by Georgetown University graduates Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman and Nathaniel Ru, sweetgreen has become a favorite not only for its delicious and healthy food, but also for its commitment to local farmers, the community, sustainability, and outstanding company culture. sweetgreen was born from the belief that the community would benefit from a healthy, delicious, and eco-friendly dining option. The founders passionately believed it was possible to create "food that fits" - your values, your budget, your tastes, your imagination, and your community. They opened their first location, a 560-square foot space in Georgetown, in August 2007 - just three months out of college. The shop quickly grew a cult-like following and, over the next six years, the threesome went on to open 18 additional locations throughout Washington, D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and Philadelphia. In addition to the Boston opening, sweetgreen will open this summer at NYC's NoMad Hotel and Maryland's Silver Spring.
The company also founded sweetlife, an annual food and music festival that attracts a curated selection of cutting edge artists and 20,000 attendees - not to mention outstanding food from top chefs, food trucks, local purveyors and farmers. This year, the music lineup featured several high profile artists including Phoenix, Passion Pit, Kendrick Lamar, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Solange, and more.
The Boston location will showcase a modern farmhouse style, the next evolution in sweetgreen's in-store design pallet. When conceiving the design, sweetgreen kept as much of the original structure as possible to preserve the look and feel of the shop's historic location. Design details include beautiful hickory flooring and recycled oak beam rafters sourced from Cambridge-based Longleaf Lumber and reclaimed wood tables designed by Uhuru, a sustainable design store. A cool tile floor reads "Passion X Purpose" (a cornerstone of sweetgreen's philosophy) in the entryway, and the sho
