S.Y. KITCHEN PRESENTS AN EXTRAORDINARY BAROLO TASTING DINNER FEATURING RARE RINALDI WINES

A Menu Created by Chef Luca Crestinelli with Vertical Wine Pairings
by Sommelier Emily Johnston Offers Rare Exploration of Barolos
from Renowned Piedmont Winemaker

WHO:
Luca Crestanelli, Executive Chef/Partner of S.Y. Kitchen and Emily Johnston, Wine Director of the Toscana Restaurant Group and Rinaldi Wines

WHAT:
S.Y. Kitchen presents an exclusive wine-tasting dinner of Chef Luca Crestanelli’s Northern Italian cuisine paired with the exceptional wines of Piedmont, showcasing a vertical tasting of Giuseppe Rinaldi’s now rare Barolo.

Other wines poured will be a Barbera d’Alba from Cascina Chicco, a sustainable winery in Piedmont making a sophisticated, yet open Barbera with values of the more youthful Piemontese wines. Also included is a Moscato d’Asti from another renowned Piemontese winery, Braida di Giacomo Bologna to be served with dessert by Pastry Chef Francesco Crestanelli. This typically aromatic and distinctive wine demonstrates the region’s diversity; producing the austere and elegant Nebbiolo beside the soft and sweet Moscato.

Chef Crestanelli has crafted a menu using Balik Farm smoked salmon from Switzerland¸ Italian white and black truffles, stuffed squab and elaborate pastry to pair with of the Piemontese wines in both traditional and less usual presentations with striking results.

ABOUT GIUSEPPE RINALDI:
Giuseppe Rinaldi is a traditionalist winemaker who is at the forefront of vogue winemaking in the changing scene of Barolo. Known for blending Cru vineyards (Brunate-Le Coste and Cannubi S. Lorenzo-Ravera), Rinaldi’s primary style may have reached the end of its golden age. Regulations for the 2010 vintage and beyond require that Cru Barolo be made of only one Cru vineyard. S.Y. Kitchen is offering a rare chance to try a vertical of vintages through 2009, the last vintage of these blended Crus. As the 2010 wines are now reaching the market, this is a fleeting glimpse into Barolo’s past and an opportunity to try these great Barolo wines.

ABOUT S.Y. KITCHEN:
Owners Kathie and Mike Gordon along with their partner Executive Chef Luca Crestanelli, Sous Chef Francesco Crestanelli, Wine Director Emily Johnston and Bar Manager Alberto Battaglini, bring warmth and style and exquisite food and beverages to the Santa Ynez Valley restaurant they opened in April 2013.

With a degree in Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts, Chef Luca Crestanelli found his passion and refined his technique during his world travels. He discovered ingredients, recipes, and methods of cooking varied from each little town or village within a country, as each region honored age-old traditions. Over time he developed his own distinctive style, creating an enriched, authentic local culinary experience that honors traditional Italian cuisine.
