Tbs Acquires Import Rights To South African Wine Label Beyerskloof
Total Beverage Solution (TBS), a beverage importer and supplier of fine wine, beer and premium spirits, announces exclusive importation and distribution rights to South African wine brand Beyerskloof, developed by Beyers Truter, one of the area's foremost winemakers. Beyerskloof is South Africa's top-selling and most popular producer of pinotage wines, and is globally recognized for its diverse portfolio of multi-award winning wines of character, as well as its innovative and progressive approach to winemaking. Two of the brand's labels, Pinotage 2010 and Synergy Cape Blend 2008, are currently available across the US.
Situated in one of the world's classic red wine regions, Stellenbosch, in the Cape Winelands, Beyerskloof was developed when Truter formed a partnership in 1988 with four ardent wine lovers in Johannesburg. Truter had already made a name for himself while at Kanonkop Estate in the 1980s, most notably for taking home an International Wine & Spirits Competition award for winemaker of the year, as well as being known locally as the "King of Pinotage." He was eager to develop his own wine label and discovered a perfectly-situated farm within the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin region. Coincidentally, the farm had previously belonged to the Beyers family for a total of five generations before Jan Andries Beyers sold it in 1895. Beyers Truter is a direct descendent of Jan Beyers, thus making him the sixth generation to own the land. In 2007, Anri Truter took over the control of the cellar and winemaking from his father and is now the seventh generation to farm the property.
Beyerskloof has garnered international acclaim including the prestigious Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande Trophy for the best blended red wine in the world at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. Additionally, Robert Parker rated Beyerskloof Diesel Pinotage 2008 with 91 points and Beyerskloof Reserve Pinotage 2008 with 90 points. Beyerskloof was also one of five wineries featured in Wine Enthusiast's December feature on "The Power of Pinotage."
