Tishbi Champagne Preserves - Strawberry And Passion Fruit Win Kosherfest's New Product Competition's 'best In Show'
NEW YORK -- Tishbi Passion Fruit and Strawberry Champagne Preserves, made from the Tishbi family's award-winning winery in Zichron Yaakov in Israel and marketed by Fruit of the Land, a Canadian company, was selected as Best in Show in Kosherfest's 2011 New Products Competition. The Tishbi Passion Fruit Champagne product also won in the Jams and Preserves category.
"This year's list of new products was very impressive, posing a challenge for our panel of judges," said Bill Springer, Group Vice President, Diversified Business Communications, and show producer for Kosherfest, the world's largest kosher trade show, which will be held November 8 - 9 at the Meadowlands Convention Center in Secaucus, NJ. "We had entries from all over the world and fierce competition in a number of the product categories."
Winners were crowned in 15 categories plus Best in Show, and were entered by companies from Brooklyn to Buenos Aires. Entries were judged on such criteria as uniqueness, quality, presentation, taste, pricing and salability.
Among the winners were Sparking Ayala's Herbal Water (Beverages), which infuses purified sparkling water with culinary herbs in a drink that contains zero calories and preservatives and comes in such flavors as Lavender Mint, Lemon Peel, Orange Peel, and Lemongrass Mint Vanilla; Sugar River Cheese (Cheese or Dairy), which is made from family farms in Wisconsin where the cows are never treated with rBGH growth hormone; Mango Gourmet Italian Ice (Dessert), a fat free, lactose free product with no cholesterol or sodium; Bamba Halva (Savory & Salty Snack Foods), a peanut snack with sesame cream filling; Rabbi Mints Classic Kosher Mints (Candy), the only kosher mints available in America and packaged in tins; and the Royal Challah Silicone Bakeware Pan (Giftware & Novelties), which allows both novice and seasoned bakers to make "braided" classic cakes and breads.
The panel of judges was comprised of Yakov M. Yarmove, Corporate Business Manager, Ethnic Marketing and Specialty Foods, SuperValu; Barry Eizik, Category Manager/Kosher, The Great A&P Tea Company; Deborah Shapiro, Local Business Manager, Fresh Foods and Center Store, Winn-Dixie Stores; Marty Stein, Account Manager, Tree of Life/Kehe Foods; and Yoel Schoenfeld, Buyer, Chestnut Supermarket.
