LOS ANGELES, California – May 29, 2014 – Toscana, the renowned Italian restaurant in Brentwood with a devoted following of customers, celebrated its 25th year in business with a gala dinner honoring founders Mike and Kathie Gordon, raising over $35,000 for the newly established Michael Gordon / Maynard Brown Fellowship in Los Angeles. To further celebrate Toscana’s Silver Anniversary in 2014, the restaurant will also present a Toscana Classics menu showcasing some of the restaurant’s most treasured dishes from June 15 –August 15.

The gala dinner held on May 6, 2014 was hosted by Owners Mike, Kathie and Andy Gordon and included over 70 prominent members of the community, loyal guests and family, all dining on a four course menu of Toscana’s signature dishes paired with exceptional wines from Italy and California. The dinner was prepared by Executive Chef Hugo Vasquez and supervised by General Manager Sauro Mosti and Maitre d’ Scott Anderson.

The Toscana Classics menu for the restaurant’s Silver Anniversary featured June through August will include favorites of Insalata Carciofi; Toscana’s original Pollo al Mattone; Ravioli Radicchio and others at their original 1989 prices. Pricing will be à la carte and available Sundays – Thursdays.

Toscana quietly opened in April of 1989 by first time restaurateurs Mike and Kathie Gordon who dreamed of recreating the simple, delicious food and warm, inviting ambiance they found in Italy. Toscana’s success exceeded all expectations. The restaurant was quickly discovered and populated by guests who became regulars, dining on exquisite and authentic Italian fare a few times a week for lunch and dinner. Twenty five years later, Toscana continues to thrive.

Through Sherry Lansing’s “Prime Time” Program, Mike Gordon teamed with Maynard Brown, Director of the Crenshaw High School Business, Entrepreneurship and Technology Magnet Academy, to create the The Michael Gordon / Maynard Brown Fellowship. Gordon and Brown formed the fellowship to benefit inner city high school graduates as they strive to obtain a higher education and become productive members of our Los Angeles community. Through gap funding, mentoring, internships and employment, the Fellowship will support graduating seniors who have been accepted and enrolled in colleges, universities or trade schools under various funding programs. For further information on the Fellowship and how to become involved the public may contact Mike Gordon at bmgmike@aol.com.

The Gordons are grateful for the longevity of their restaurant and are actively involved in the management of Toscana, the adjacent Bar Toscana, and their new restaurant, S.Y. Kitchen in Santa Ynez, California where they have a home. “We’ve been so fortunate to have enjoyed the support of our community and our long standing guests,” states Kathie Gordon. “Celebrating 25 years is something we are proud to have accomplished. However, building something to help others achieve personal success is even more meaningful to us.”
