Tre Porcellini - A New Restaurant In Hillcrest, San Diego, Serves Authentic Italian Cuisine With A Modern Twist.

SAN DIEGO, CA: January 20, 2011 - Tre Porcellini - a new Italian Restaurant and Wine Bar in Hillcrest, San Diego, has just been added to the vibrant neighborhood food scene. Its creative chef-owner Roberto Gerbino combines his rich Sicilian heritage with a modern style and brings the notion of authentic Italian cuisine to a new level.

Roberto applies a fresh approach to classic recipes. His specialties include Champagne strawberry shrimp risotto, "Mac & Cheese" risotto and truffled polenta fries as opposed to your regular "French". Meat lovers will appreciate another chef's favorite -Trio Porcellini, which is a combination of a pork shoulder roast, a pork chop and glazed pork belly. Veal Ravioli (Ravioli con l'Osso) are served with a mushroom and wine reduction sauce accompanied by a bone with marrow inside. All pasta is made in house from scratch - a rarity for San Diego. Tre Porcellini's wine list boasts over 50 wines from Italy, Spain, Chile and California. Homemade desserts include delectable hearty-portioned Tiramisu and Sicilian Cannoli.

Chef Roberto Gerbino does not shy away from labor-intensive dishes that require many hours of preparation. Many of them are inspired by his childhood in Catania, Sicily. Eager to help his father in the family restaurant, he started his culinary journey at the age of ten. It took him another decade to master the art of Italian cooking. After moving to the United States, Roberto spent many years pleasing the palates of San Diegans in top local restaurants in Little Italy, Downtown and Del Mar areas. He left the position of the executive chef at Il Fornaio Del Mar to open Tre Porcellini, which allowed him to realize his long time dream - combining the past and present of Italian cuisine.

Not only the food but also the dcor of the restaurant unites tradition and modernity. It's easy to think rustic at the sound of Tre Porcellini ("Three Little Pigs" in Italian). However, the dining room is sleek and sensual with no brick in site. Black-and-white retro photographs coexist here with contemporary paintings; 60's style chandeliers attenuate the minimalist style of modern white furniture. The position of the kitchen allows guests in the dining room to sneak peaks of the chef's culinary artistry. The patio, the lounge-bar area and the main dining room can accommodate up to a 100 people. With its friendly and stylish atmosphere Tre Porcellini is a perfect setting for big parties with friends, business meetings and romantic dates.

The restaurant is open daily from 11:30 am to 10pm Sunday through Thursday and provides late dining on the weekends (open till 11pm).

Tre Porcellini features a happy hour every day from 4 to 7 pm.
