Ultimate Barista Americas, Lorenzo Perkins Of The Usa Earns Gold In China!


Best of Showdown, a special award, went to Ultimate Barista Americas, Lorenzo Perkins for top point accumulation throughout the 3 day Ultimate Barista Challenge at Food Hospitality China FHC Beijing 2009, the 8th International exhibition for the food, drink, hospitality, foodservice, bakery & retail industries. Almost 7,000 attendees witnessed barista expertise in professional espresso preparation by three of the world's top baristi.
It was Ultimate Barista Korea, Mr. Tae Jin Um who won the Espresso Cocktail Challenge with his sublime cocktail "without a name". UBC Head Judge, Sherri Johns noted, "Barista Um's Espresso Cocktail had a silky texture, rich combination flavors of espresso and Irish Cream, shaken, not stirred, served in classic martini glass with a vanilla bean stir stick; the final detail of caramelized cream blazed atop each drink was an elegant touch. It was luscious."

In the Latte Art category, Ultimate Barista China, Mr. Kelvin Huang, once again, secured his undefeated status presenting Visual and Tasting judges flawless art of hearts, florettes and his namesake design "Panda" creative drink that taste as delicious as it looks. The Panda is brewed with espresso, velvety steamed milk infused with a hint of jasmine green tea for a sweet, delightful surprising taste.
Ultimate Barista Americas Mr. Lorenzo Perkins, first timer for the International Ultimate Barista Challenge, garnered the Espresso Frappe category win with his chilled blended drink perfect for balmy Beijing where the Challenge took place. Best of Brew Challenge, the only filter drip coffee challenge in the world, was awarded to Ultimate Barista Perkins for his presentation, introduction, serving finesse and brew taste of a rare Rwandan coffee.
