New York City / Portland, Oregon, USA - Over 18,000 attendees crowded in Jacob K. Javits Convention Center March 1 - 3 to witness an amazing array of talented local baristi go up against two of the nations finest in a dueling barista competition like no other.

Dubbed, the "Iron Chef" of coffee, two baristi, someone who expertly prepares coffee, faces stiff competition in categories of Latte Art, Espresso Frappe, Espresso Cocktail and Best of Brew Challenges. Qualifying winners in each category select the Ultimate Barista of their choice in a coffee showdown before a live audience on the exhibition show floor! Ryan Dennhardt, Ultimate Barista USA and owner of High Road Consulting faced his challenger from NYC, Sam Penix, of Everyman Espresso in the Latte Art Championship Final Challenge. Ultimate Barista Ryan triumphed although "a very close match", states Sherri Johns, UBC Head Judge and UBC Program Creator. Both baristi created stunning drinks and creative designs brewing on the Astoria Plus 4 You Espresso Machines featured at the UBC for the first time. Demonstrations at the UBC Stage included the Plus 4 You Espresso Machine, Dr. Smoothie & Caf� Essentials Brands making 5 Recipes for attendees & audience to taste! Latte Art, Best of Brew and Espresso Cocktail demos were lead by the UBC Ultimates and our own Sherri Johns!

Ultimate Barista Mike Love, owner Coffee Labs Roasters, Tarrytown New York, faced two challenges; Espresso Cocktails & a UBC Espresso Frappe "Showdown"! Barista and Sales Director Joe Palozzi, of Kobicks Coffee met head on with Ultimate Barista Mike in a dizzying array of amazing espresso cocktails. Ultimate Barista Mike Love garnered the UBC Champion Medallion with his espresso version of a "Pisco Sour". The UBC Espresso Frappe Showdown featured Ultimate Barista vs. Ultimate Barista! Ultimate Barista Mike Love took on Ultimate Barista Ryan Dennhardt as a featured event! As NYC Espresso Frappe Champion he received a Commercial 3 hp VitaMix Blender. Torani Syrups provided an IPod for the Espresso Cocktail Champion and bountiful chocolate gift baskets supplied by Ghirardelli. All champions received the coveted Reg Barber Enterprises engraved tampers and all participants received valuable "barista tools" and gifts from GEEC/Astoria, Everpure LLC, Dr. Smoothie Brands, CDN, Joe Glow/Pallo, Teaposy, and signature sling bags from the UBC.
