Valentino Celebrates Summer With Special Wine Deals
Beautiful warm weather isn't the only thing to feel cheerful about this season. Valentino offers another way to enjoy the spirit of summer: The Santa Monica restaurant is offering all wines from its famed wine list at a 25 percent discount on Monday and Tuesday nights. The hot summer promotion, which is set to last until the first day of fall on September 22, presents a great opportunity for diners to explore some of the treasures on the restaurant's phone book-sized wine list.
The offer is enticing: From well-priced choices like a delicate Chianti, red Veronese or Rosso Piceno that are all priced under $50, to a rare Brunello di Montalcino that normally sells for hundreds or a vintage Bordeaux that costs in the thousands, the restaurant is including all 90,000 bottles and 2,800 labels in the Toast to Summer special. "Introducing our guests to the wines we love has always been one of our great passions here at Valentino," explains owner Piero Selvaggio. "Maybe this program will give diners an incentive to try a different bottle or venture into new vinicultural territory, or it will give somebody the chance to try a bottle that usually doesn't fit their budget. Whatever our guests are looking for, we invite them to find their own special hidden treasure in our cellar and enjoy it."
For those who want to play it safe, wine enthusiast Selvaggio offers his own summer choices: "I just returned from Italy and brought back a few wines I enjoyed and that fit the season perfectly, including a 2001 Chianti Classico Giorgio Primo by Fattoria la Massa and a wonderful 1999 Palari Faro by a small Sicilian winery made with grapes indigenous to the island," he reminisces. "And what could be better than a little Italian vacation in a bottle?"
