Wahoo's Fish Taco Opens First East Coast Location In The Big Apple

New Yorkers are finally able to experience Wahoo's Fish Taco, the iconic California-based restaurant chain, with the debut of its first East Coast location at 333 Park Avenue South, between 24th and 25th Streets, near Madison Square Park in Manhattan.

Celebrated for its fresh food and relaxed sensibility, Wahoo's Fish Taco has more than 60 locations throughout California, Hawaii, Colorado, Texas and now New York City. "We're really excited about opening in Manhattan," says Mingo Lee, co-founder of Wahoo's. "After more than 20 successful years on the West Coast, we're stoked to head East. This location is the first of many, as we work to bring Wahoo's to more people."

Wahoo's wasfounded by three brothers: Wing Lam, Ed Lee and Mingo Lee. The cuisine reflects Mexican, Brazilian and Asian flavors, an eclectic combination influenced by their childhood; the brothers grew up amongst the surf culture in Brazil and California, while working in a Chinese restaurant, which their family owned. The menu features dishes that have garnered a cult following, in particular the Fish Taco-an original recipe that has not changed since it was first served in 1988-a light flaky white fish, grilled and served on a soft corn tortilla with a sharp cheddar jack blend, shredded cabbage and homemade salsa. Additional menu highlights include the Maui Bowl, Teriyaki marinated steak served over steamed, seasoned rice and beans; Banzai Burrito, Banzai veggies (a mix of onion, cabbage, red and green peppers, mushrooms, zucchini and broccoli), with rice, beans and salsa; and beer battered Maui Onion Rings. A kid's menu is also available.

The fast-casual restaurant features a full bar and the beverage menu features a selection of signature cocktails, including Wahoo's Margarita, Sauza, Triple Sec, Wahoo's Sweet & Sour, Cactus Leaf; Baja Iced Tea, Grey Goose L' Orange, Agave, Ice Tea, Mint; Godzilla, Sky Raspberry Vodka, Monster Energy, Cranberry Juice; and Moto Mary, Skyy Vodka, Bloody Mary Mix, Soy Sauce, Sriracha, Wasabi. Wahoo's will also offer 6 beers on tap, including local Brooklyn-based Kelso Brewery.

Keeping with Wahoo's spirit, tradition and longtime support of action sports-skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding-the 2,500 square foot New York location features unique street art murals from popular apparel brands Element and DC Shoes. Continuing with this theme, surfboards, skateboards, bikes and more, from such venerated brands as Quiksilver, Burton, Sector 9, Billabong and Hurley, will adorn the dining room. In a nod to the Big Apple, Brooklyn-based longboard company, Bustin Boards, will also contribute to the dcor with a selection of one-of-a-kind, hand-screen-printed skateboard decks. Wahoo's plans to incorporate more local brands and products as they settle into the market.

Wahoo's is located at 333 Park Avenue South, New York, NY 10010, between 24th and 25th Streets. Wahoo's will be open Sunday-Thursday, 11AM-10PM and Friday-Saturday 11AM-11PM, with delivery service to come. For more information, please visit www.wahoos.com or call 212-466-3330.
