Walter's Restaurant In Portland To Open New, Expanded Location December 29 At 2 Portland Square
On December 29 at 11:30 a.m., Walter's (www.waltersportland.com), a longtime favorite on the Portland, Maine dining scene, will open the doors to its new, expanded location at 2 Portland Square in the city's historic Old Port district. The restaurant, known for its flavorful dishes featuring Mediterranean, Asian and Caribbean influences, will introduce its expanded lounge area; a new, late-night bar menu; and extended operating hours. Menu must-haves for longtime fans of Walter's will still be found alongside an array of new specials on the daily lunch and dinner menus.
"Our loyal customers will be happy to know we've kept their favorite dishes," said Chef Jeff Buerhaus, co-owner of Walter's with his wife, Cheryl. "Additionally, I'm enjoying refining our new bar menu, which will feature some creative twists on classics that we think guests will enjoy."
Walter's new, spacious home, located on Union Street at 2 Portland Square, was designed by Andrew Hyland and Mark Chaloupecky at Port City Architecture. The sleek, inviting space features a 9-foot x 18-foot wine wall which will house Walter's extensive collection of international wine offerings. Chef Buerhaus and his wife, Cheryl, who serves as co-owner and General Manager of Walter's, worked in tandem with Judy Schneider of Interior Resources to assemble the rich and welcoming hues of the dining room fabrics, walls and appointments. The dramatic fireplace at the new location's entrance instantly sets the casual, welcoming mood for Walter's visitors.
The expansive wood and tile, 14-seat bar near the comfortable 12-seat lounge area will provide an appealing gathering spot for after-work cocktails and light, pre-dinner fare. The restaurant's new bar menu, available from 2:30 p.m. - midnight, will offer Portland's post-theater crowd and "night owls" an appealing option. Free parking for patrons, a rare find in the Old Port, will be available behind the building after 6 p.m.
The overall offerings and theme of Walter's are certain to further its role as a "can't-miss" dining option for the downtown business crowd, families and date-night couples.
