Washington Youth Garden Holds First Annual Fundraiser With Capital File
Three of Washington's most prestigious chefs are volunteering to create an exclusive fall dinner at the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum on September 13th.
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Youth Garden at the U.S. National Arboretum at 3501 New York Avenue, NE, will host its first annual fundraiser on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. sponsored by Capitol File magazine which launches in September. Three prominent chefs from Washington, DC will volunteer and help to host this eventthey include: Johnny Monis of Komi, Koji Terano of Sushi-Ko and Jamie Leeds of Hank's Oyster Bar. The evening will begin with a reception (which allows time for guests to stroll the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum at 6:30 p.m.) followed by the program and dinner which begins at 7:30 p.m.
"The proceeds that are raised from this event will help provide crucial support for our three core programs that engage DC children, families and teachers in hands-on plant science activities through gardening," said Kim Rush, Director of Washington Youth Garden. "We are excited to have three of Washington's most talented rising star chefs volunteer their time to prepare a fall feast for our guests - it will be an incredible experience that we are looking forward to! It is rare to find the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum open for special evening events!"
This special night takes place outdoors (indoors if the weather is inclement), in the exquisite National Bonsai & Penjing Museum which houses one of the largest collections of these rare and timeless trees in North America. Tickets are priced at $125 per person to benefit The Washington Youth Garden ($60 tax deductible).
For more than three decades The Washington Youth Garden has offered DC youth hands-on experiential learning through its year-round programs that teach plant science, food and nutrition through gardening activities. The Washington Youth Garden offers a window into many unimagined and otherwise unattainable worlds for school children who live in the District of Columbia. Located within the green oasis of the U.S. National Arboretum, The Washington Youth Garden not only "grows green dreams," it nurtures and nourishes new generations of gardeners, and encourages young people to appreciate the environment and the land. The Washington Youth Garden is a project of the Friends of the National Arboretum.
