Wines Of Argentina Announces 2012 Malbec World Day Event Line-up

Wines of Argentina today announced the international line-up of 2012 Malbec World Day events, twelve of which will take place in the United States.

Building upon the successful Inaugural Malbec World Day (April 17, 2011) and reinforcing their mission to establish Argentine Malbec as the indisputable benchmark of this variety around the world, Wines of Argentina has organized more than 73 events in 36 different countries that will propel Malbec into the spotlight in a powerful and impactful way on and around April 17, 2012.

April 17th was selected as Malbec World Day because of its historical significance. On this date in 1853, a bill to create the first school of agronomy - Quinta Agronomica - was submitted to the government of Mendoza. It represents both the transformation of Argentina's wine industry and the starting point for the development of Malbec as its flagship variety.

"With the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the collaboration of the National Institute of Tourism Promotion over 40 Argentine diplomatic representations around the world will produce activities in celebration of this symbolic day" says Magdalena Pesce, North American Area Manager for Wines of Argentina. Participating delegations include the United States, Canada, China, United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic Greece, Algeria, Russia, Armenia, Ukraine, Australia, India, Korea, Vietnam, The Philippines, Malaysia, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Panama and Venezuela.

"Here in the US, we are organizing 12 Malbec World Day events that will take place in 7 different cities during 10 days in April" says Nora Favelukes, US Representative for Wines of Argentina. "Up to 20 wineries will participate at each event. It is a huge undertaking and a wonderful example of collaboration" adding "It would not be possible without the support of our friends at the Argentine Embassy and Consulates, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Institute of Tourism Promotion."
