WORLD-CLASS CHEESES AND CELEBRITY FROM THE LAND OF MILK & HONEY
Israel's Most Celebrated Chef & TV Personality Hosts
A Week Long Promotion At Taboon Restaurant, January 31 - February 6
January 2005 - In honor of their one year anniversary Taboon Restaurant will offer a number of special dishes complimenting their "Middle-terranean" cuisine as well as a Prix Fixe menu featuring unique world-class Israeli cheeses from January 31 - February 6, 2005. Taboon will present a very special guest chef, Haim Cohen, star of Israel's most popular television show, "Salt, Pepper, Garlic and Oil". Chef Cohen is owner of Dixie (in Tel Aviv), one of the country's hottest restaurants, and is affectionately known as one of the fathers of New Israeli cuisine which he introduced at the famed restaurant Keren.
Chef Cohen will be cooking his signature "Med-rim" cuisine as guest chef at Taboon on Friday, February 4 and Saturday, February 5. Taboon, under the hand of Executive Chef and long time Haim Cohen protigi Efi Nahon, has won critical and popular acclaim since opening its doors in February of 2004. It has been singled out in New York Magazine's "Where To Eat 2005" and was listed among New York Newsday's "Top 10 Favorite New Restaurants of 2004". Noted Chef and Food Writer Rozanne Gold has said that this innovative take on New Israeli cuisine, including its superlative produce, cheeses, foie gras and wines, is "the greatest story never told."
PRIX FIXE WINE & CHEESE MENU + FREE GOODIE BAG
"Israel has some remarkable cheeses and wonderful dairy dishes that we want to spotlight for New York food lovers," notes Taboon Owner Daniel Hodak. The first fifty patrons ordering the special dinner will receive a free Israeli cheese goodie bag in order to continue the experience at home.
FAMOUS ISRAELI BREAKFAST
For those who have heard about but never experienced the famous "Israeli Breakfast", Taboon will introduce New York food lovers to this delectable Sunday brunch of morning meze (small plates based on garden vegetables, cheeses, yogurts and herbs), fresh breads and pastry along with some cheese based specialties: Eggs any style with Kashkaval Cheese and Labane with Zaatar; Borehkas with Feta Cheese and Brown Egg; and an Israeli Cheese sampler served with Spice Bread.
The land of milk and honey has been producing dairy products for thousands of years and today is known for its multitude of artisanal cheeses; from goat and sheep's milk cheeses like Feta and Kashkaval to hard and semi-firm cheeses like Edam, Gouda, Swiss, aged Cheddar and Blue cheeses to name a few. The dairy industry is one of Israel's agricultural pillars and the country's farming system of Kibbutz collective farms and Moshav family cooperatives provide Israeli dairies large and small with milk to create these cheeses as well as Israel's famous yogurts, dairy desserts and drinks.
Taboon is located at 773 10th Avenue @ 52nd Street
