Chef Luis Acuña of El Pobre Luis - Biography

As a youth, Uruguayan Chef Luis Acuña learned to grill from his father, who owned the parrilla (or grill restaurant) El Pobre Acuña. In 1974, Luis moved to Buenos Aires to settle down and work at a small parrilla. After a short time, he met his future wife, who worked in the accounting department of the restaurant where he cooked. Combining his wife’s business skills with his grill mastery, Acuña set up his first parrilla in the Nuñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires. Years later, you can still find Luis cooking at El Pobre Luis, now a well-known, family-friendly, and family-run restaurant that’s treasured by locals.
